Walk Lundeskaret - stay overnight at Lunde Turistasjon

Right above Lunde Turiststasjon There is a classic of a mountain hike.

The hike up Lundeskaret was started as early as 1906. The trail is the steepest prepared, DNT-marked trail in the entire country. In 2017, the trail was cleared by Nepalese Sherpas, and the trail is now safe and well-maintained with stairs and a wire to hold on to on the steepest parts. From the top of Lundeskaret you can continue in several different directions. The peaks Tverrfjellet and Søgnesandsnipa are great lookout points.

Lundeskaret is much more than a mountain hike. The route up the skar at the very bottom of Kjøsnesfjorden was first used as a road for people and livestock. Later, the glacier was brought from Lunde Turiststasjon , and the mountain tourists got to experience the mountain plateau with a view of Marabreen, an arm of Jostedal glacier .

When the trail was built in 1906, it took a total of 800 man-days to complete. The price for the work was 800 kroner! It was the great-grandfather of the current host at Lunde Tourist Station who started offering guided tours up Lundeskaret.
