Snow conditions in Lundeskaret
We took a trip into Lundebotnen on May 13th at 10pm to see what it looks like with a view to snow in Lundeskaret. We have already received a number of questions about how it is to go up now.
As you can see from the pictures, there is still a lot of snow in the gutter. This is not unusual at this time of year, and it of course requires both ice axes, ropes and crampons to cross the channel. There is also still a lot of snow left on the stone steps and in the mountain above, and the latter snow will probably fall into the crevice above the Great Altar and go all the way down past Skarholten.
We strongly urge people not to climb Lundeskaret before the snow on the sides has melted away. There is also snow left on the left side that could fall even higher up. There is no point in taking any chances. It is better to wait a few days or weeks! The summer is long and we hope there will be many nice hikes up Lundeskaret this year too.
